When I conceptualised Limitless, I wanted to tell inspiring stories of hope in the face of all odds. Rather than featuring those who’d already made it, we focused on the untold stories of Asians under 20 – still experimenting with their talent, and not afraid to try – on the cusp of something important.
Google “girl from slums”, and Maleesha Kharwa’s name pops up. She was born in Mumbai’s slums, became a model overnight gracing the covers of international magazines, and sparked viral videos. We wanted to unearth the story behind the princess from the slums, and what more there was to her than a winning smile.

In Indonesia we met Maerys, a waacking dancer who left home at 17 to escape a toxic domestic relationship – and found expression and safety in a community of dancers in Bali. Waacking is a dance form that is gaining popularity in Asia, and talented Maerys looks poised to achieve her dreams.
Nesta from the Philippines is a pint-sized 11-year-old with big dreams of being a professional footballer. His parents, who run a small eatery, had no idea how much Nesta’s dreams were going to cost, yet they’ve been a pillar of support, finding creative ways to raise the money to support his passion.
Similarly supportive of her son’s creativity is single mother Ann, who lives in a rental room in Singapore. Sijun was born with Down Syndrome, and puts all his expression into his art. He captured our hearts with his openness, confidence and desire to one day design a real home where he can celebrate his birthday.
