The absentee voting period for South Dakota’s Nov. 8, 2022, General Election begins today (Sept. 23, 2022).
Hughes County Finance Officer Thomas Oliva says people can vote at their County Auditor’s Office. For Hughes County, it’s on the second floor of the courthouse in Pierre.
Because of the time frame needed to get ballots printed for absentee voting to start today, Oliva says the question about whether or not to approve the creation of the Central South Dakota Ambulance District is on the ballot….but voters don’t have to answer it.
Oliva says sample ballots are available.
Oliva says people can fill out the sample ballot at home, then bring it with them when they absentee vote or vote on election day.
Absentee ballot application forms may be requested from your county auditor or downloaded from the Secretary of State’s website at www.sdsos.gov.
South Dakota law requires voters submitting an absentee ballot application form to include a photocopy of an acceptable photo identification card or have the form notarized. Acceptable photo identification cards include a South Dakota driver’s license or non-driver ID card, tribal photo ID, passport or other picture ID issued by the United States government, or a current student photo ID issued by a South Dakota high school or post secondary education institution.
