Hong Kong Luxury Home Sells for About Half of Its 2017 Purchase Price
A high-end home in Hong Kong, which was purchased in 2017 for HK$111.5 million (US$14.2 million), has just sold for HK$60 million. Located in the upscale Redhill Peninsula, the property was part way through an uncompleted renovation project, which was a factor in its lower asking price. But it may also have been a casualty of the ongoing “illegal structure” crackdown. A recent landslide in the region prompted government officials to survey the luxury neighborhood where they discovered a number of illegal structures on the high-end homes, prompting public outcry and the local government to promise to crack down on the practice . Industry insiders warned that the move could send a chill through the region’s luxury home market. South China Morning Post
