Luxembourg airport has re-opened terminal B after nine years yesterday. The terminal, which closed in 2008, will feature a new shop offering fashion and last-minute duty-free products operated by Aelia, which won the duty-free and retail tenders at the airport in 2015. This is due to open this month.
According to the airport, its extension and reconstruction of TB was urgently required due to the passenger increase in recent years. In the first quarter of 2017, the airport handled 1,639,000 passengers, growth of 18.2% compared to the first half of 2016.
The terminal will provide nine additional gates, operating flights in the Schengen area, increasing the total number of gates from 15 to 24. TB is connected via a 90-metre building equipped with “Travelators” to TA, where parking, public transport, entrance, check-in, security, baggage claim and arrivals is situated for all flights.
Lux-airport CEO Johan Vanneste said: “Today we officially re‐opened terminal B, which is another milestone in the history of Luxembourg airport. Passengers will benefit from the convenient boarding directly at the gates and the comfortable waiting areas. Further, we have adapted everything to the traveller of today, providing power and USB sockets to charge electronic devices, inventing new self‐boarding gates, supplying free and fast Wi-Fi. New shopping and dining possibilities will open in August.”
