NEOM Airlines (Neom Bay) will launch operations in late 2024 or by the first quarter of 2025 as a third state-owned airline in Saudi Arabia, albeit with a narrower focus on serving the futuristic urban development of Neom Bay.
Chief Executive Klaus Goersch told the Future Travel Experience website that the start-up would strive to provide a “world-class travel experience” for passengers travelling to and from Neom, catering to leisure and business traffic alike.
“The final route development plan is in the making, but naturally key regional and global gateways are top candidates. We cooperate closely with all Neom stakeholders and projects to align our ‘go to market’ strategy. After all, we are the enabler for the destination, so alignment across the Neom projects is absolutely key,” he said.
Goersch emphasised that the airline, designed from scratch, will offer more than just flights and will work to create a comprehensive travel experience, but he refused to disclose any further details of the business plan or fleet strategy. He stressed that NEOM…
A UK Civil Aviation Authority’s decision to fix 2023 airline levies at London Heathrow has drawn strong criticism from airlines who want a steeper cut, while the airport says it makes no sense and will not benefit consumers.
“The CAA has chosen to cut airport charges to their lowest real terms level in a decade at a time when airlines are making massive profits, and Heathrow remains loss-making because of fewer passengers and higher financing costs. This makes no sense and will do nothing for consumers at a time when the CAA should be incentivising investment to rebuild service. We will now take some time to carefully consider our next steps,” the airport said in a statement.
On March 8, the UK CAA announced that charges for 2023 would remain fixed at the level set out in its interim decision issued earlier this year. In current year prices, the maximum price per passenger for 2023 is GBP31.57 (USD37.4). The average maximum price per passenger would then fall by about 20% to GBP25.43 (USD30.19) per passenger in 2024…
Iberia (IB, Madrid Barajas) parent IAG International Airlines Group will pay EUR400 million euros (USD423.7 million) to Globalia for the remaining 80% of Air Europa (UX, Palma de Mallorca) to take full ownership of the airline, it announced in a statement released on the evening of February 23.
IAG said that “the acquisition remains strategically important for the group and positions it to benefit from growth opportunities in the Latin America and Caribbean market, as well as to increase connectivity to Asia.” The Anglo-Spanish holding bought its current 20% stake in August 2022 for EUR100 million (USD106 million),
“Upon completion,” it said, benefits of the deal include “transforming” its Madrid Barajas hub to compete with Europe’s largest hubs, “enhancing IAG’s position in the highly attractive Europe to Latin America and Caribbean market, and enabling the company to open routes to new destinations in Asia.”
It will also offer “significant synergies, in line with those of previous acquisitions, to be delivered around 2026 to 2028” if the deal is completed,…
