Amazon plans to close five of its Massachusetts delivery warehouses due to the company’s overgrowth during the COVID pandemic, a spokesperson told the Boston Globe.
Caitlin McLaughlin, a spokesperson for Amazon, told Globe reporters that the company’s delivery warehouses in Milford, Dedham, Everett, Randolph and Mansfield will all be closing.
The spokesperson didn’t specify a timeline for the closures or state how many employees will be affected by the decision. However, McLaughlin said workers of the soon-to-be-closed warehouses will have the option to transfer to nearby Amazon delivery warehouses that feature “upgraded amenities” such as on-site parking and better break rooms, according to the Globe.
The Amazon spokesperson said that the warehouse closures are part of the company’s larger effort to amend overgrowth from the COVID-19 pandemic, the newspaper reported.
“We regularly look at how we can improve the experience for our employees, partners, drivers, and customers, and that includes upgrading our facilities,” Amazon spokesperson McLaughlin said in a statement to Patch. “These facilities provide upgraded amenities, including increased on-site parking, larger operational spaces, and better breakrooms with open market vending.”
