MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – The scientific community of Belarus and Russia addresses practical problems for the real sector of the economy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus Boris Gryzlov said, BelTA learned from the Russian Embassy in Belarus.
“The Congress of Young Scientists of Russia and Belarus is not just a landmark event for the science and technology cooperation between our countries. Today’s forum sets quite specific and practical tasks for the scientific community of the Union State. These tasks are aimed to stimulate new research, create favorable conditions conducive to advancements in key areas – from physics to pharmaceuticals. The outputs of these studies are incorporated into the real sector of the economy of Russia and Belarus, they are used in manufacturing, information technology and agriculture; they facilitate import substitution, and they set us on track for technological sovereignty,” said Boris Gryzlov.
According to him, it is particularly important that young researchers are part of this large-scale work, as they will set trends in science in the coming years. “We are well aware that high technology is the cornerstone of the economy of the Union State. Let me remind you that on 27 March, following the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State, an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in science, technology and innovations was signed with a view to giving a fresh impetus to our interaction in this area,” ambassador noted.
The work on 20 joint projects in key areas is already underway. “This pertains primarily to the automotive industry and electronics. At the same time, we are expanding the planning horizon and are discussing not just joint applied research, but also the implementation of ambitious mega-science projects. A testimony to that is the opening of a branch of the Kurchatov Institute at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 29 March,” Boris Gryzlov noted.
The decision to hold the Congress of Young Scientists of Belarus and Russia was made by the presidents of Belarus and Russia in December 2022. The event is timed to the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. The congress is attended by young researchers from research centers and higher learning institutions of the two countries. The Russian Federation is represented by the Kurchatov Institute and the Russian Academy of Sciences, including the St. Petersburg Federal Research Center and the Siberian and Far Eastern branches of the academy.
