The number of attacks on bus drivers is increasing “exponentially”, according to a statement released by the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB) on Tuesday.
Fear is said to be growing in the sector and several drivers are no longer willing to use certain “sensitive” routes. For this reason, the trade union is calling for urgent solutions.
The proposal by the administration in charge of public transport to eliminate buses after 7.30pm on the Longwy and Mont-Saint-Martin lines would not solve the problem, but would only circumvent it, according to the LCGB. The trade union would prefer the installation of safety cabins in the buses. Until these are installed, temporary solutions should be sought, the LCGB writes.
Since February, the LCGB has recorded ten incidents involving bus drivers in Luxembourg or in the border region. As recently as last Sunday, a driver was attacked by a passenger at a bus stop on the N7.
