MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) is entering an active phase of preparations for the single voting day, CEC Chairman Igor Karpenko said, BelTA has learned.
“The Electoral Code sets out specific deadlines related to preparations for the elections of deputies. In particular, no later than 1 September 2023, the Central Election Commission and local Councils of Deputies shall determine the average number of voters in a constituency for the parliamentary elections and the elections to local councils,” said Igor Karpenko.
Based on the average number of voters, the regional executive committees and the Minsk City Council shall submit proposals to the Central Election Commission on the formation of parliamentary constituencies. “We plan to adopt a relevant resolution by the end of September. Constituencies for the elections to local Councils of Deputies will be formed no later than 1 November,” Igor Karpenko added.
The Central Election Commission of Belarus established the average number of voters per constituency ahead of the elections of deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the eighth convocation. The Central Election Commission will also consider the establishment of the Youth Council under the Central Election Commission, the procedure for submitting nominees for the Central Election Commission’s badge of distinction “For services to the electoral system”.
