Vanguard Season 5 is here, ending its round of seasonal updates by bringing classic weapons from past Call of Duty games. Although set in WW2, Advanced Warfare’s EM1 has arrived as the EX1 Energy Weapon. Here’s everything you need to build the best EX1 loadout for Vanguard Season 5.
Vanguard Season 5 brings the end of this era of Call of Duty before the franchise moves on to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 later this year. The developers have gone all-out for this final season, bringing back villains such as Mendez and Al-Asad, as well as reintroducing classic weapons.
One of these new weapons is the EX1 Energy Weapon, which is essentially the EM1 from Advanced Warfare. It’s a powerful choice in multiplayer, so here are the attachments and Perks you need to make the best EX1 loadout for Call of Duty: Vanguard.
This Vanguard EX1 loadout combines the weapon’s non-existent recoil with great mobility and enough ammo to take on enemy after enemy.
We’re kicking off this EX1 loadout with the Magnified Relay Muzzle and SD Instant Grat Barrel. Combined, your laser will shoot instantly without having to be charged, and you’ll be able to shoot for even longer before recharging (reloading).
The classic Slate Reflector and Removed Stock give a clear sight picture and vastly increase the EX1’s movement speed and sprint-to-fire time. Next, the Ion Hand Stop acts similar to the M1941 Hand Stop, boosting its recoil control and accuracy.
As it’s a laser weapon, there are no ammo choices, but the Royal-PV Cell Reserve Battery increases its ammo capacity. To balance out the Magazine’s hit to ADS speed, the Fabric Grip is the perfect choice.
Finally, the Proficiency and Kit are down to personal preference, but Sleight of Hand and On-Hand are a great combination.
For Perks, you should consider running Ghost with the EX1. You’ll be completely hidden from UAVs, and can also remain completely silent by using the Ninja Perk in the third slot. We’d also recommend Forward Intel as Perk 2, allowing you to see enemies spawning.
For Equipment, a well-timed Frag Grenade can clear enemies from almost anywhere, and the Stun Grenade is great for slowing down opposing players and getting information.
Vanguard players can unlock the EX1 for free at Tier 15 of the Season 5 Battle Pass, but can start leveling it up by unlocking the Superficial Blueprint at Tier 5 of the Premium Battle Pass.
There are plenty of viable weapons in Vanguard, but the Automaton has remained the best Assault Rifle. The STG44 has remained consistently deadly throughout Vanguard’s lifecycle too.
The EX1 should be a powerful choice for the new Archon Zombies map, so be sure to check out all of the changes to Vanguard Zombies in Season 5.

The RA 225 is Vanguard’s latest and final SMG to be added to the game with the Season 5 update, so here’s the best loadout for the weapon.

Vanguard Season 5 has brought yet another SMG to the game and here’s everything you need to create the best loadout for the RA 225 including attachments and Perks.
The RA 225 is certainly not the first post-launch SMG to make its way to Vanguard, but it will have the distinction of being the last as Season 5 will act as a finale for the game. With Vanguard’s fast TTK across the board, weapons with blazing fire rates like SMGs are some of the most devastating in the game.
Players who have been enjoying fighting up close and personal with Vanguard’s stellar list of SMGs will want to give the RA 225 a try following the Season 5 update.
To get you up to speed, check out the best RA 225 loadout including our recommended attachments and Perks.
The RA 225 can be a touch unwieldy at times, therefore we’ve gone with attachments that look to increase recoil control, without cutting into the weapon’s ADS and movement speed too much.
The M1941 Hand Stop, Tight Grip, and Valenta Padded will add a much-needed boost to the weapon’s accuracy and recoil control. However, we still want Vanguard’s RA 225 to function as a fast SMG, so the Fabric Grip will come in to increase the weapon’s ADS and movement speed.
The Recoil Booster will increase the weapon’s fire rate, while Lengthened and the Moravec 18″ Needle will boost the bullet velocity, making the RA 225 a force to be reckoned with at medium distances as well. Meanwhile, the Slate Reflector is the cleanest optic available.
Given the size of the powerful .45 ACP 32 Round Mags, you may run out of ammunition if you play your life for extended periods of time. Therefore, we recommend Fully Loaded to maximize your ammo.
The Ghost and Ninja combination are ideal for most multiplayer modes as they’ll give players who love to remain on the move a huge advantage by being silent and staying off of enemy mini-maps.
Much like Ninja and Ghost, Forward Intel suits the aggressive play you’ll seek out with the RA 225. With the Perk providing hints at where your enemies are going to spawn, you can easily set up a spawn trap that will put your foes in a blender.
Meanwhile, the Mk2 Frag Grenade is devastatingly powerful, just make sure you cook it a little. The No 69 Stun Grenade will disorient your opponents while you close the distance with SMG in hand.
Luckily for players, the RA 225 is a free weapon accessible to all Vanguard players who reach tier 31 of the Season 5 Battle Pass.
There’s no need to purchase the Battle Pass to access the weapon but the Battle Pass Bundle with 25 tier skips will allow you to unlock the RA 225 as fast as possible.
If you’re looking for an SMG that’s somewhat easier to handle than the RA 225, you can check out the Armaguerra 43 as it offers a bit more stability. Otherwise, the MP40 has been one of the game’s best SMGs since launch and it offers excellent medium-range performance.

Here’s everything coming to Vanguard Zombies in Season 5, including The Archon map, Main Quest, boss fight, and gameplay improvements.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Season 5, the last season before Modern Warfare 2, brings the final round-based Zombies map to the game. Here’s everything we know about The Archon map, as well as the patch notes for Vanguard Zombies in Season 5.
After the huge success of Black Ops Cold War Zombies, players were less-than-impressed with Vanguard’s Zombies offering due to its lack of classic features and divergence from the round-based format.
Season 5 arrived on August 24, and it will be Vanguard’s final season ahead of Modern Warfare 2. This final update brings one more round-based Zombies map to the game with a new Main Quest and boss fight.
Here’s everything we know about the Vanguard Season 5 Zombies update, including gameplay improvements and patch notes.
Vanguard Season 5 Zombies brings The Archon, a round-based reimagining of Season 2’s Terra Maledicta map.
Although the same play space we’ve seen before, Treyarch have upgraded the map with “the full suite of round-based Zombies mechanics, an updated visual style, new Dark Aether intel, and a slew of new secrets to uncover.”
It will have all of the gameplay mechanics you’d expect in a round-based Vanguard map such as “Perk Fountains, Altar of Covenants, Tome of Rituals, and the Pack-a-Punch machine.”
The Rampage Inducer, which appeared in Cold War Zombies and Vanguard’s Shi No Numa, will also return for players who want to crank up the pace.
Treyarch have called The Archon’s boss fight at the end of the Main Quest the “crown jewel” of the Zombies map.
After completing a series of trials and objectives around The Archon, Zombies players will be tasked with fighting Kortifex, the Big Bad of Vanguard’s storyline. Treyarch said that “Rather than devoting valuable development time to additional features or more Covenants,” they prioritized the Kortifex boss fight which is “on a scale rarely seen in Zombies.”
The Main Quest will go live with The Archon’s launch on August 24th at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST.
No, there isn’t a new Zombies Wonder Weapon arriving with Vanguard Season 5’s The Archon.
Instead, Treyarch have added all three previous Wonder Weapons (Ray Gun, Wunderwaffe DG-2, and Decimator Shield) to the map. This is so they could devote more time to creating the “truly memorable boss fight.”
The Decimator Shield has seen some tweaks though, which are detailed in the gameplay improvements section below.
Treyarch released a couple of the major Zombies changes coming to the Decimator Shield and Covenants:
