Joe Biden has argued that Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter owner Elon Musk’s ties with foreign countries are “worth being looked at”, citing national security concerns. These comments were made when the US President was asked about the world richest person’s financial and commercial links to countries such as China and Saudi Arabia.
Mr Biden was also asked if he saw the South African born billionaire as a threat to US national security during a press conference on Wednesday.
The former Vice President said that he wasn’t implying that Mr Musk had done anything wrong but that an investigation would be appropriate.
He said: “I think that Elon Musk’s cooperation and or technical relationships with other countries is worthy of being looked at, whether or not he is doing anything inappropriate – I’m not suggesting that, I’m suggesting it’s worth being looked at.
“That’s all I’ll say.”

Last month Mr Musk completed his $44billion takeover of social media giant Twitter.
However, some advertisers have suspended their spending amid fears over content moderation, given the large number of employees Mr Musk has fired and the potential return of controversial figures such as former US President Donald Trump.
The Space X owner used his own wealth and sold shares in his Tesla electric car company to fund the purchase.
However, he also secured billions of dollars of financing from groups linked to Saudi Arabia, Dubai, China and Qatar.

Tesla has opened a factory in China, a country that the company views as an essential market for the future.
As a result critics have questioned if Mr Musk will be compromised by his business in a country that has increasingly hostile relations with the US.
Last month US Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, requested that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to investigate to billionaire’s dealings.
CFIUS has the authority to investigate the national security implications of deals and unwind them if necessary.

Mr Musk has also intervened in discussions surrounding the Russia-Ukraine war arguing that for peace to be achieved that Ukraine needed to embrace neutrality and that international supervised referendums should be held in eastern Ukraine.
However, Russia analyst Fiona Hill told Politico that Mr Musk was transmitting a message on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
She said: “It’s very clear that Elon Musk is transmitting a message for Putin.
“He uses prominent people as intermediaries to feel out the general political environment, to basically test how people are going to react to ideas.
“It’s just fascinating, of course, that it’s Elon Musk in this instance because obviously, Elon Musk has a huge Twitter following.
“He’s got a longstanding reputation in Russia through Tesla, the SpaceX space programs and also through Starlink.
“He’s one of the most popular men in opinion polls in Russia.
“At the same time, he’s played a very important part in supporting Ukraine by providing Starlink internet systems to Ukraine, and kept telecommunications going in Ukraine, paid for in part by the US government.
“Elon Musk has enormous leverage as well as incredible prominence. Putin plays the egos of big men, gives them a sense that they can play a role.
“But in reality, they’re just direct transmitters of messages from Vladimir Putin.”
