South Korean pop icon and fellow Chanel ambassador Jennie is the latest face for the Chanel 22 bag, alongside Lily-Rose Depp, Margaret Qualley and Whitney Peak
The Chanel 22 embodies everything to love about the house of Chanel. The now signature bag—it’s name referring to the year the silhouette was first created—was imagined by creative director Virginie Viard, and has become a staple within the house’s offerings. A seamless blend of Chanel’s signature quilted leather and interlaced metal chain detailing, the beloved bag also features an embossed gold logo and openwork double ‘C’ medallion, expertly highlighting the maison’s savoir-faire and craftsmanship.
The latest face to grace the Chanel 22 campaign is none other than South Korean singer and pop icon Jennie Kim. A member of the famed girl group Blackpink and an ambassador of the house of Chanel since 2017, Jennie fronts the latest campaign—shot by the Dutch-American fashion photographer duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin—alongside Margeret Qualley, Lily-Rose Depp and Whitney Peak. The campaign sees the iconic bag in its various sizes and colours set against the backdrop of South Korea, Los Angeles, Palm Springs and New York.
Having worked with Lamsweerde and Matadin before, Jennie shares the experience of shooting with the illustrious duo: “Inez & Vinoodh call me “My Girl”. It’s comforting because they see me as a young woman, not just “Jennie” in the spotlight. As a member of Blackpink, I’m constantly in the spotlight, but these images are an accurate representation of who I really am.” And accurate it is, with the lauded singer-songwriter bringing a fresh and vibrant modernity capturing the hearts of fans all around the world.
Similar sentiments are shared amongst the other faces of the campaign. Lily-Rose Depp—American actress and daughter of Johnny Depp—remarks: “These images are, for me, an ode to the marriage between my identities as a Parisian and a Los Angeleno. I’ve known Inez & Vinoodh for a few years now and I think they did a beautiful job at creating scenes that help my personality shine through.” Ugandan-Canadian actress Whitney Peak relates the campaign shoot to spending “the perfect day with people I love the most”. Shares Peak of the creative process: “Inez & Vinoodh brought my closest circle in on this shoot. Family and friends are very important to me and sharing this experience with them is all I could wish for.”
