More Than Half of Toronto Investors Losing Money on Units in New Developments
More than half of investors in new developments in the greater Toronto area lost money on investment properties last year, according to research from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and real estate research firm Urbanation. Indeed, for about 52% of investors, mortgage costs, condo fees and property taxes totaled more than the rent collected, the data showed. On the flip side, 48% of condo investors who bought pre-construction units to rent out reported positive cash flow in 2022. “This marks a meaningful shift that may potentially signal that a change in investor behavior is on the horizon,” said Benjamin Tal of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Eagles Guitarist Joe Walsh Buys Los Angeles Bungalow
Rocker Joe Walsh recently purchased a nearly 2,500-square-foot bungalow in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Sherman Oaks. Walsh, guitarist for The Eagles and in the past the James Gang, paid $2.3 million for the three-bedroom home, which is actually for his stepson Christian Quilici. Built in 1959, the home was recently renovated and features white oak hardwood floors, 10-foot ceilings and sliding glass doors throughout. The home sits on a lot of just 9,120 square feet, but that’s still enough space to accommodate a back patio, a pool, a “secret” vegetable garden and even a 400-square-foot pool house with its own fireplace and dining area.
