Global M&A deals down, law firm mergers up …
The total value of global M&A deals in the first six months of 2023 dropped 37% compared with the first half of last year, according to Refinitiv. Latham & Watkins took the top spot in Refinitiv’s principal adviser ranking by value of global announced deals while Goodwin Procter led when ranked by number of transactions. However, the chilling effect does not extend to law firm mergers. Twenty-eight law firm mergers took effect in the first six months of this year, compared with 25 deals each in the first halves of 2022 and 2021, according to Fairfax.

Twitter ex-employees in spotlight …
On Monday, a proposed class action by Twitter employees who were laid off or quit after Elon Musk’s acquisition claimed that the company has blocked at least 891 arbitration cases from proceeding by not paying initial fees.
