TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Thursday, November 3, 2022, that he will be participating in the ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Bangkok, Thailand.
Aside from attending the ASEAN, G20 and APEC summits, Trudeau will also attend the 18th La Francophonie summit in Djerba, Tunisia, according to his statement posted on the Canadian Prime Minister’s official website on Thursday, November 3, 2022.
During his visit to Asia, Trudeau will showcase Canada’s firm partnership in supporting global economic growth to benefit the nations on both sides of the Pacific.
No region in the world will have a greater influence on Canada’s future in the next half century than the Indo-Pacific, as said in the release on the Canadian PM’s website.
“When the world cooperates on facing shared challenges, we make life better for everyone. I look forward to meeting the world leaders, including my colleagues from the Indo-Pacific region, continuing to produce jobs and economic growth for everyone.” as stated by Trudeau quoted from the release.
At the ASEAN summit on November 12 to November 13, Prime Minister Trudeau will address efforts regarding regional and global challenges with his colleagues in ASEAN and Indo-Pacific region.
Trudeau will also participate in the ASEAN-Canada Commemorative Summit to mark the 45th anniversary of ASEAN-Canada relations.
Under the ASEAN Summit’s topic “Overcoming Common Challenges”, the Canadian Prime Minister will promote regional peace and stability, rules-based trade, economic growth that benefits everyone, and strong ties between peoples among nations.
“While people around the world are affected by the impact of challenges such as inflation, food insecurity and supply shortages, we must work together to press for a solution and make life better and more affordable,” Trudeau said.
Meanwhile, at the G20 summit on November 15 and November 16, 2022, Canada’s PM and his associates will be proposing shared priorities under this year’s G20 theme “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”, in finding joint solutions to food and energy insecurity, climate change, and health.
While at the APEC Summit on November 18, with the theme “Open. Connect. Balance”, Prime Minister Trudeau will assert Canada’s commitment to open economic cooperation and remove trade barriers in the Indo-Pacific region to benefit the people of both sides.
Trudeau will then participate in the 18th la Francophonie summit on November 19 and November 20.
During his visit, Trudeau will deliver about the importance of peace, security, democracy, and human rights, ambitious action on climate to accelerate the transition to a cleaner economy, addressing food and energy security, and measures to create a better life and more affordable to the community. In addition, Trudeau will also highlight the importance to work with allies to support Ukraine and other countries affected by war.
