Over the past couple of weeks, travellers departing from Findel airport were often in need of patience due to increased waiting times.
Our colleagues from RTL spoke to Alexander Flassak, CEO of Luxairport, about the unusual state of affairs: “There are individual peak phases, like Tuesday mornings. The second wave of departures between 9.30 and 10.30am is particularly affected and the terminal can be full in a short span of time.”
Even with all security lines operative, it still takes a considerable amount of time for passengers to get through during peak times. Travellers are thus recommended to show up at the airport at least two hours prior to their flight.
Flassak also elaborated that the hands of airport personnel are tied in cases where airlines cancel their flights, as was recently the case with TAP and EasyJet flights to Portugal: “We depend on the airlines in such cases, they decide if they want to cancel and we only get notice shortly beforehand.”
If passengers have their flights cancelled, they are advised to contact their provider straightaway to see if alternatives can be booked via phone or online.
According to Flassak, stress levels also easily transfer from passengers to personnel, especially during peak phases. However, he also emphasised that he has not heard reports of a single traveller missing their flight due to excessive waiting times.
