Development, construction, maintenance or operation funding available from national science foundation
Researchers in Switzerland have another shot at winning funding to work on top facilities in the fields of particle physics, ground-based astrophysics and astroparticle physics.
The Swiss National Science Foundation has launched a second call for its Funding Large International Research Projects scheme, which has a budget of 43.6 million Swiss francs (€45.3m) to support work on large initiatives in these fields over 2021-24.
The call, which will fund projects for up to two years, is open to proposals for the development, construction, maintenance or operation of “internationally recognised experiments”.
According to an SNSF document explaining the call, the scheme has been allocated SFr 10.9 million per year, subject to approval by the country’s parliament, but one call has already allocated some of the funding.
This second call is to allocate the remainder of the funding.
Grants can cover hardware, salaries, travel and mandatory contributions to common funds. Researchers can also apply for additional funds such as computing resources if necessary, which would be granted if funding is available.
The deadline to submit proposals is 15 November. Grants can start from 1 April 2023.
