Canberra-based financial technology consultancy Chartertech has acquired Infocube, expanding its capabilities in business intelligence and corporate performance management.
The deal adds a team of 20 professionals – qualified accountants and technology specialists – to Chartertech, which now sees its headcount break through the 100-barrier within five years of its inception.
Founded in 2017 by Michael McRoberts and George Skillin (and a co-founding team), Chartertech similarly focuses on the niche that brings together finance and accounting expertise with deep technical systems and process knowledge.
Chartertech builds its services on two technology stacks: IBM (focused on Planning Analytics [also known as IBM TM1] and IBM Cognos Business Intelligence) and TechnologyOne (Australia’s largest enterprise Software as a Service provider).
“The acquisition of Infocube expands Chartertech’s TM1 capability,” said Skillin. Alongside consulting and implementation offerings, Infocube also has an IBM Planning Analytics education platform, ExploringTM1, and an online community and fee-based training and membership platform, TM1 Explorers.
In addition, the bolt-on boosts the New South Wales (NSW) operation of the Canberra-based group. “We’ll be growing our Sydney team so Chartertech has a larger presence in NSW that can service clients across state government and the private sector,” said McRoberts.
“This is an exciting highlight in Chartertech’s growth journey,” remarked McRoberts and Skillin.
Meanwhile, for Infocube, the joining of forces will enable the firm to work “with Chartertech on larger finance consulting projects”, said company founder John Vaughan. “We’re looking forward to working with other planning analytics specialists to innovate and extend our TM1 service offering, and work with complementary Chartertech products and service lines.”
Clients the two accounting-heritage consultancies work for include the Department of Defence, Australian Signals Directorate, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Veterans’ Affairs, National Audit Office, and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.
In 2021, Chartertech closed two deals: Cubicus, an IBM Planning Analytics consultancy; and Screen Consulting, a TechnologyOne specialist firm. The group currently has just over 100 employees on its payroll.
