We got the lowdown on how easy it is to create a malware app from one of Vietnam’s most notorious hackers, now turned cyber-threat hunter.
The most alarming part for me was seeing the ease of access to manuals that teach you, step by step, how to scam victims with malware.
We also didn’t expect to end up learning more about a malicious Android app we had been tracking from Singapore. “Show it to me,” our ex-hacker said confidently. Within minutes, he was tracking the possible places the scammers were from.
Earlier, in part one of our investigation, we’d met Junia Tan who almost lost her life savings because she downloaded this app thinking she was buying fried chicken for her family.
To help others avoid falling prey to such scams, she meticulously explained how she’d ended up doing so. And hoped we could find out who was behind it.
Our intention was to film what happens when a malicious app gets into your phone – but we were in for a surprise when we saw what it led us to.
