The U.S. Supreme Court’s long-awaited ruling in a case about Andy Warhol’s art may have raised as many questions as it answered about the controversial copyright doctrine of fair use, legal experts said.
The limited decision reconfigured the fair-use test, but it provided less clarity than some had hoped for about when and how the doctrine should apply.

Microsoft evaded a potential early legal obstacle in its $69 billion deal to acquire “Call of Duty” videogame maker Activision Blizzard, when a U.S. judge on Friday refused to allow gamers in a private suit to preliminarily block the acquisition. The court’s order comes just days after Microsoft won EU antitrust approval.
A lawyer for the gamers said they will press on with their challenge to the deal despite losing this preliminary round. Microsoft and its lawyers contend the acquisition would benefit consumers.
