The cheapest available room we’ve found is £135 a night as prices rise above £500
Finding 'cheap' hotel stays in the capital is tricky all year round let alone on the weekend of one of the biggest Royal family events to date, the upcoming Coronation. Whilst prices soar we've searched hotel sites for the cheapest city centre stay.
Thousands of spectators are expected to travel to London to soak up the patriotic atmosphere or join one of the many crowds dotted towards Westminster Abbey. In line with demand-based pricing, some hotels have gone from £100 average up to as much as £600 a night, that's if you're lucky to find space.
A stay at The Resident Victoria costs £179 on the weeknight of Monday, May 1, jump to the following Saturday, May 6 and it will cost £569 for the same room. The Zedwell in Piccadilly Circus normally costs around £125 a night, at the Coronation weekend it's up to £196 as demand rises.

Unlike other UK cities where double room rates can often be snapped up for as little as £30, it's almost unheard of in London even if booking with the budget hotel chains.
Whilst it's no surprise to see a jump in hotel and B&B prices it's not completely out of the question to find rates around £100 within walking distance of major London sites.
There is a selection of Travelodge rooms still available to book for the bank holiday Coronation weekend, and prices start at £102 a night depending on the location.
The cheapest available is a double room at the Travelodge on Central City Road, which is currently £102.99 for a SuperRoom. As expected being one of the cheapest prices it is quite far from Westminster Abbey, a 58-minute walk from its Finsbury location.
Next up in price on Travelodge's list is its Central Kings Cross Hotel from £158 a night on Saturday, May 5, or the London Waterloo Hotel at £285.99 a night (the closest to Westminster).
Well known for its budget prices the cheapest rate we found at one of London's easyHotel is £147.60. This is the given price for customers checking in on May 6 for one night at the South Kensington easyHotel.
Hotel locations in the city centre have nearly all sold out, but there are a select few still available, at a might higher cost than normally associated with the budget hotel chain.
The cheapest we've found is the Premier Inn Farringdon at £153 on Saturday, May 5 which is only a seven-minute walk from St Paul's Cathedral. To get this price bookers have to choose a non-refundable standard room, as flex rates on Premier Plus Rooms are currently as much as £221 for the same night.
The Copthorne Tara in South Kensington, is £204 on the night of May 5, for a standard double bedroom. A 23-minute walk from Westminster Abbey, again it's one of the closest hotels that is still available for the Coronation weekend.
Those booking the cheapest non-refundable rate also get continental breakfast included in the price, and there's also an option to upgrade to a total of £224 for free cancellation.
