China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou) is reportedly in talks about joining Oneworld. China’s biggest airline quit rival alliance Skyteam in 2018 and has since focused on individually negotiated partnerships and joint ventures. According to Bloomberg, oneworld member airlines are keen to recruit China Southern Airlines to tap into an anticipated travel boom in and out of China once that country winds back its travel restrictions, and membership discussions are underway.
oneworld has 13 full-member airlines including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, JAL – Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, and SriLankan Airlines while Oman Air is readying to join the group and Russia’s S7 Airlines is currently suspended. oneworld is the smallest of the major airline alliances, with Star Alliance having 26 airlines in its ranks and SkyTeam having 18 member airlines.

China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou) has joined the ranks of airlines retiring their A380-800 fleets after it operated the type’s last revenue flight on November 7, 2022.
B-6139 (msn 88) was the last of five quadjets to end their service with the airline. Its last flight, CZ328 from Los Angeles Int’l, arrived at Guangzhou on the morning of November 7. B-6140 (msn 120) was retired on November 5, while the other three units exited the fleet starting in October 2021. The routes to Los Angeles and Amsterdam Schiphol, the two last services where the A380s operated, will now be flown by B787-9s and A350-900s, respectively.
China Southern Airlines continued to operate sporadic A380 flights throughout the pandemic and never grounded the type fully, as opposed to the majority of its operators globally. However, it said in early 2022 that the quadjets would be withdrawn by the end of 2022, being replaced with more efficient twinjet widebodies.

Avions de Transport Régional (EVX, Toulouse Blagnac) has secured its first-ever order in China after an undisclosed customer firmly committed to three ATR42-600s.
According to local media, the order came from a local state-owned enterprise in China, with plans to establish a new general aviation company using ATR42-600s. In addition, other domestic customers are said to be in talks with ATR.
The news was revealed during the ongoing Zhuhai Airshow. The Franco-Italian manufacturer also confirmed that it has now received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the smaller of its two variants from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). ATR had hoped to obtain the certificate for the -600 variant in 2020, but the procedures were halted by the pandemic.
The ch-aviation fleets history shows that ATR has a limited experience in the Chinese market. While the -500 variants were certified in the country, their operational history is limited to five ATR72-500s delivered new to China Xinjiang Airlines in 1997-1998. In 2004, the five aircraft were integrated into the…
