Thirty years after the murder of Christiane Heiser in Brussels, the circumstances surrounding the 21-year-old’s death remain unclear.
On November 12, 1992, Luxembourgish student Christiane Heiser was found dead in her apartment on the ULB campus in Brussels, where she had been stabbed. Her body was not discovered for several days following her death, only after a friend alerted the university porter to Heiser’s disappearance.
Over the course of the past three decades there have been numerous clues unearthed in the search for Heiser’s killer, but the case remains unsolved 30 years on, with insufficient evidence to investigate the potential suspect.
Ten years ago, a lawyer acting for Heiser’s family was convinced that police had located the student’s murderer, but the trail ran cold after that suspect’s DNA did not match traces found on the victim’s body.
At RTL’s request earlier this year, the public prosecutor’s office in Brussels announced that no further information could be given on the case. Therefore, it remains uncertain whether a new trail will be followed, or whether there will be any further developments in the case.
The tragic case of Christiane Heiser was explored in more detail in the first episode of our DNA podcast below:
