Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, is asking for $95,000 a month for his six-bedroom, five-bathroom beachside house in Malibu, California. Smith bought the home in 2006 for $8.6 million. Constructed in 1949, the Mediterranean-style compound comes with two guest houses, a pool house and an outdoor kitchen. Early Anne Hathaway fans might recognize this newly listed San Francisco home, which played a role as her character’s high school in the 2001 film “The Princess Diaries.” In real life, the building is likely too small for a school, though it does make a roomy home at around 4,500 square feet. An approximately 38-foot tower “rises above the slate roof to capture a spectacular panoramic vista,” the listing says. British homeowners have been heading to the auction block as the market slows. The number of residential properties going under the hammer in August surged nearly 52% year over year, according to data from property firm My Auction.
