Luxembourg’s men’s national cricket team will play two official international games in June ahead of a T20 World Cup qualifying tournament later this summer.
Cricket is a growing sport in the Grand Duchy, and the Red Lions will compete in a tournament in Finland in July as part of the qualifiers for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held in the Caribbean and USA.
The team will host two official matches in Walferdange on 11-12 June, as well as a friendly against Switzerland.
The Red Lions are currently 53rd in the world rankings, six places higher than this time last year after a successful 2021.
In a press release, the chair of the Luxembourg Cricket Federation, Steve Evans, said: “These are exciting times in Luxembourg cricket.”
National team manager Madhu Ramachandran added: “Our squad will be stronger this year than in 2021, and we stepped up our winter training regime. We have never been blessed with so many good players, and we have every opportunity to move up the rankings this year.”
Fancy coming down to watch? Spectators are warmly encouraged to attend the matches at the Walferdange on Rue de l’Alzette between 11am and 7pm on Saturday 11 June, and between 12 and 3pm on Sunday 12 June, with a barbecue available.
