Cumbrian defender Jarrad Branthwaite helped loan club PSV Eindhoven get the better of Premier League leaders Arsenal.
The former Carlisle United star, from Wigton, started for the Dutch side in their Europa League clash.
And Branthwaite impressed as PSV claimed a 2-0 home win over the Gunners which sealed their progress from the group stage.
Branthwaite came into the side to take on an Arsenal line-up which included Granit Xhaka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli and Aaron Ramsdale, with Gabriel Jesus and England star Bukayo Saka coming off the bench.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta named a strong side in the hope of sealing top spot in Group A.
But, after reaching the break at 0-0, goals from Joey Veerman and sub Luuk de Jong gave PSV the firm advantage at the Philips Stadion.
Branthwaite was substituted with nine minutes to go as Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side closed out victory.
It sees PSV assured of progressing from Group A and, with one game to go, still with a chance of overtaking Arsenal and topping the group, which would see automatic progress to the last 16.
PSV need to beat Bodo/Glimt and Arsenal to slip up against FC Zurich for Branthwaite’s side to top the group.
Group runners-up go into a play-off round.
It was 20-year-old Branthwaite’s latest outing during a season-long loan from Everton.
