Award-Winning Pool in Australia Costs Nearly as Much as a Typical City Apartment
The best pool in Australia cost nearly as much as a typical apartment in one of the country’s major cities. The annual Poolz Awards gave the top honor for 2023 to a private home in Melbourne, where the owners hired firm Aqua Paradise to create a lavish swimming area with a shallow wading section and an adjoining pond—an amenity that cost about A$500,000 (US$330,670) to build. By comparison, the median sale price of a flat across Australia’s capital cities was A$622,734. Domain
Number of New Home Buyers Slipping in the U.K.
The number of prospective buyers is slipping across the U.K. An average of 53 new would-be buyers registered per estate agency across the country in October, down from 60 in September and 81 in August, according to research from Propertymark. The drop isn’t unusual for this time of year, with a similar pattern seen in the run up to the festive period last year. The average number of viewings per property meanwhile, remained static across August, September and October. Financial Reporter
More U.S. Home Buyers Are Forging Ahead Despite High Rates
Potential home buyers in the U.S. are becoming more likely to purchase a home even as interest rates remain high, according to a study by Bank of America. About 62% of 1,000 people polled in September said they’d wait for mortgage rates to drop before buying a home—that’s down from 85% six months prior. Rates hit a more than two-decade high in October when they rose to 8%, deterring buyers in the U.S., where nearly 80% of mortgages have an interest rate below 5%. But as the economy shows signs of cooling, potential buyers, who are losing patience, are hopeful that rate hikes are likely done. Reuters
