Property Prices Expected to Rise Globally Amid Short Supply
Home prices in most major global markets are expected to rise slowly over the next two years as demand remains high while supply is low, according to a Reuters poll. Home prices across the world have defied the expectations of analysts, who predicted at the start of the year that prices would drop double digits from Covid-era peaks. Instead, in most markets, prices will end the year on a positive note. Though strong demand will lead to price increases, lack of homes for sale—especially affordable homes—and high mortgage rates will keep prices from climbing too much. Of the major housing markets polled—U.S., Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Dubai—prices are expected to rise between 1.3% to 5% in 2025, while estimates for India were set to surpass 7%. Australian Home Buyers Are Searching for This One Amenity
As home buyers Down Under looked for new properties this year, a large portion of them were searching for one specific feature—a pool. Domain’s end of year data revealed “pool” was the top keyword in home searches of 2023, followed by “study,” “view” and “waterfront.” This information isn’t surprising, especially to agent Toby Parker of Belle Property Balwyn, who said a pool can make or break a deal. “I would’ve said pools without looking at the data,” he said. “There’s been a real shift of families wanting to entertain at home and have that complete entertainment space.” Additionally, Parker said high-end buyers have come to expect a pool, and it’s rare that someone would be willing to spend millions on a home without one. Two of London’s Most Expensive Listings Struggle to Sell
Two of the priciest mansion for sale in London—on the market for a combined £475 million (US$598.5 million)—have been struggling to sell, impacted by high interest rates and a tough tax environment. Hui Ka Yan, founder of the embattled Chinese real estate company China Evergrande Group, nearly sold his Knightsbridge mansion for £200 million, £25 million below asking, but negotiations broke down while the property was under offer. Meanwhile, a 40-room mansion in Regent’s Park has yet to receive an offer close to its £250 million asking price, despite dozens of visits from prospective buyers. “Buyers in the market right now want to feel they’re getting a discount, but super prime sellers remain highly discretionary,” said Jo Eccles, managing director at buying agent Eccord. San Diego Home of 1920s Mexican President Lists for $2.5 Million
A vibrant Spanish Colonial Revival home in San Diego, California, has recently hit the market for $2.499 million. Located in the city’s historic Kensington District, the home is named for former Mexican President, Gen. Pascual Ortiz Rubio, who lived there in the mid-1930s. Built in 1928, the home has a vibrant interior that showcases the artwork of renowned Mexican artist and set designer Ignacio Martinez Rendon. Spanning 4,035-square-feet, the home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, some of which have original tiles that have been preserved. Additionally, the home’s exterior features 19th-century pueblo tiles, which Gen. Rubio reportedly imported from Mexico. Realtor.com
