We examine a modern and serene Swissôtel-branded scheme that’s ideally situated for conference delegates in our latest collaboration with TOPHOTELDESIGN.
This early 2021-opened hotel exhibits the architecture of Marazzi + Paul Architekten and interior design of Nina Mair Architecture + Design.
In March 2021, Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, part of Accor, introduced new flagship property Swissôtel Kursaal Bern following the renovation of the former Hotel Allegro. The 171-key property places guests in the heart of the city right next to the Kursaal Bern congress centre, combining thoughtful design with traditional Swiss hospitality and a focus on sustainability.
Marazzi + Paul Architekten renovated the existing property and Nina Mair Architecture + Design designed the interiors, with natural, sustainable and well-crafted materials reflecting the hotel brand’s alpine heritage. Laufen, meanwhile, supplied the stylish bathrooms.
The hotel is a five-minute walk from the Unesco-listed Old City of Berne and a ten-minute walk from Bärengraben (bear park), the Rosengarten and the Aare River.
True to the brand and its philosophy – ‘Life is a journey – Live it well’ – the hotel aims to nourish the body and stimulate the mind.
In line with this concept, the hotel’s fourth floor is home to two of the brand’s signature Vitality Suites, placing wellbeing at the centre of a guest’s stay. These come with panoramic balconies, custom-made furnishings and a Wellbeing Wall designed by NOHRrd for mental and physical training.
Guests can also make use of the hotel’s in-room vitality fitness sets and 150 sq m 24-hour fitness centre.
These wellness facilities are joined by two restaurants led by Michelin-starred chef Fabian Raffeiner: The Giardino Mediterranean restaurant with sun terrace, and Asian-oriented Yù restaurant. Cocktails are served in the Garden Lounge, while the roof terrace provides attractive views over the city and the Alps.
Events can, of course, be accommodated in the Kursaal Bern congress centre, which is the largest event space in the city with no fewer than 28 modern, light-filled rooms.
