Sir Keir Starmer has said he believes that Diane Abbott’s comments on racism were antisemitic, and that he wants to show that the Labour Party “takes antisemitism seriously and acts swiftly”.
It comes after the Government’s independent adviser on antisemitism, Lord Mann, said Ms Abbott should step down at the next election after her suspension from Labour over her letter published in The Observer on racism. In it, she wrote that “many types of white people with points of difference” experience prejudice, but were not subject to racism “all their lives”.
Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak is to kick off a conference that will look to increase opportunities for the private sector to boost economic growth.
