RIYADH: The Philippine embassy in Riyadh recently hosted a Ramadan Iftar for Filipino students studying in the Kingdom.
Charge d’Affaires Rommel Romato addressed the students during the gathering, which included embassy personnel and other guests. “You are fortunate to be allowed to learn and gain knowledge in Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam.
“You have the potential to influence positive changes in our country and beyond. Whatever path you choose, I hope you will carry on with your patience, integrity and humility,” Romato said.
He encouraged the students to use their learning experiences and networks to contribute to nation building.
The embassy held the iftar and reception in the newly refurbished chancery in late March.
Many of the attendees included Filipino college students studying at some of the Kingdom’s top universities.
These include Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman University, Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University and King Abdulaziz University.
The Ramadan event was an opportunity for the embassy to reconnect with students and introduce the Philippine government’s programs and services for overseas Filipino communities, and outline support for the growing number of the country’s students in Saudi Arabia.
During the reception, several students took to the podium to share their experiences of studying in Saudi Arabia, including Mohammad Laisie Enok Ebrahim who studies at a local university.
The Philippine embassy has been engaged with Saudi universities to support and enhance the experience of Filipino students and to promote academic collaboration between the nations.
Currently more than 170 Filipino students are pursuing higher education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
RIYADH: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) on Wednesday distributed Ramadan food packages in Niger, Bangladesh, and Lebanon.
The Ramadan scheme benefited this year thousands of families in different cities around the world, on Wednesday more than 30 tons of food packages were distributed in Niger, and in excess of 64 tons was received in Bangladesh and 3 tons in Albania.
The center also distributed over 32 tons of food packages to the Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, as part of the project aimed at supporting food security in Lebanon during the holy month of Ramadan .
In Bangladesh also KSrelief distributed 345 shelter bags to people affected by the floods and torrents, the aid comes within the shelter projects provided by Saudi Arabia to the neediest families in the various affected areas.
JEDDAH: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received Jordan’s King Abdullah in Jeddah.
The pair discussed bilateral ties between their nations.
Earlier the king performed Umrah after he arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
He was received by Prince Badr bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Governor of Makkah Region; Saudi Ambassador to Jordan Naif bin Bander Al-Sudairi; and a number of senior officials.
After arriving at the Grand Mosque in Makkah the king performed the lesser pilgrimage.
MAKKAH: The Muslim World League has praised the continuing efforts of Saudi Arabia to help achieve a comprehensive political solution to the crisis in Yemen, under the supervision of the UN and within the framework of the peace initiative announced by the Kingdom in 2021, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.
Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, secretary-general of the league and chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars, also expressed appreciation for the humanitarian work carried out by Saudi authorities, under the leadership of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
He added that he hopes the Kingdom’s discussions with all parties involved in the conflict in Yemen will help revive the political process and ultimately achieve a comprehensive and sustainable resolution.
MAKKAH: More than 2.5 million worshippers gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Wednesday evening, the 29th night of Ramadan, to perform Isha and Taraweeh prayers and watch the completion of a Qur’an recitation that has been taking place, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The mosque began to fill with people in the early hours of the day. Its imam, Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, led prayers during which he called on Allah to protect the Kingdom and all Muslim countries from evil and bless them with stability and safety.
In keeping with directives from the Saudi leadership, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque said it had implemented all necessary procedures and services to ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors to the mosque.
MADINAH: Senegalese President Macky Sall prayed at the Prophet’s Mosque on Wednesday.
Several officials from the Agency of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Prophet’s Mosque received the president.
The Senegalese president arrived in Madinah earlier in the day, where he was received at the Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport by the Director General of the Royal Protocol Office in Madinah Ibrahim bin Abdullah Berri and several other officials.
