Jean Carroll filed a lawsuit against former United States president
Controversy has sparked in the USA after Elle magazine columnist Jean Carroll accused former president Donald Trump of raping her in the dressing room of a department store in the 1990s.
Carroll has already taken legal action against Trump and it is not the first time that the two will face each other in a court, since Trump accused the columnist in 2019 of defamation, when she published a book and wrote an article saying that he had abused her.
Now, a couple of years later, Carroll posted a tweet on her official Twitter account announcing that she has taken legal action against Trump.
“Dearest friends, tonight, a few minutes after midnight, we filed the rape suit against the former president,” she wrote.
“I give thanks to the greatest civil rights attorneys in the nation Robbie Kaplan! Matt Craig! Joshua Matz! Shawn Crowley! Rachel Tuchman!
“This suit is not just for me, it’s for every woman who has been groped, grabbed, mauled, assaulted, demeaned, and dragged through the mud by a powerful man.”
In the lawsuit filed by her legal team, Carroll explained exactly where and how the former US president allegedly raped her.
“Roughly 27 years ago, playful banter at the luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue in New York City took a dark turn when Defendant Donald J Trump seized Plaintiff E Jean Carroll, forced her up against a dressing room wall, pinned her in place with his shoulder, and raped her,” read the complaint.
Carroll also claimed that she did not have the courage to go to the police at the time and that, since that alleged event, she has not dared to have sex with anyone else.
The lawsuit has certainly made a splash in the USA and comes shortly after Trump announced he’ll run for the presidency again.
