There was a story that I pitched to a local publication when freelancing that unsurprisingly didn’t get picked up.
Perth’s most stylish bathrooms.
If this piqued your interest and, like me, you appreciate a bathroom with a terrazzo floor, an aesthetic colour palette or quality hand products, you’ll enjoy the bathroom at this Subiaco establishment.
Yiamas, a new Greek restaurant in Subi, is topping the list for best bathroom with an impressive feature stone basin and earthy tones.
However, you didn’t come here for a bathroom overview, so let’s get to the review.
The restaurant fit-out itself is absolutely stunning, one of the best I’ve seen for some time in Perth, and while we sat outside on a grisly evening (booking a few weeks out while it was still sunny) we remained cosy next to a heater.
The menu is broken down into small plates, on the fire and sides — which we ordered across. Service is excellent, you can immediately tell the staff have a good understanding of the venue and menu and know how to make you feel welcome and looked after.
We were most excited for the meat from the grill, lamb ($34) on the day we dined, which had great flavours and char on the outside but was a tiny bit dry. Similarly, the fried potatoes with confit garlic, mizithra and marjoram were a little on the dry side.
A Corfu-style charred mullet ($21) garlic, tomato, rosemary and skordalia was unlike any dish I’d tried before. Served cold and well-cooked, it was swimming in an acidic and delicious mix of tomato and garlic.
Tip, don’t bother ordering a bowl of olives for the table as kalamatas sit proud and plump on most dishes.
Fried halloumi honey ($15) were five moreish crunchy morsels filled with the cheese, eggplant and a subtle taste of honey.
For a touch of lightness, we ordered the Yiamas salad ($17) – thinly sliced eggplant topped with feta, tomato, olives and fresh herbs – and white beans ($13) with quartered boiled egg, red onion, parsley and of course, olives. Both were still quite rich and heavy, which is not necessarily a bad thing in the cooler months.
Whether you’re coming to get a glimpse of the aforementioned bathroom, or just love Greek food, this stylish space is a great addition to Subiaco.
