The FTC filed a long-anticipated antitrust lawsuit against Amazon on Tuesday, and asked the court to consider forcing the online retailer to sell assets to stop what it said was ongoing harm to consumers. The lawsuit had been expected after years of complaints that Amazon and other tech giants abused their dominance of search, social media and online retailing to become gatekeepers on the most lucrative aspects of the internet. The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge John Coughenour, who was nominated to the bench in 1981 by former President Ronald Reagan.
