Managing Director, ESIPO, Mr. Kelvin Uwaibi
State plans to recruit 1,000 new teachers, train 650 others on digital pedagogy
Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), in collaboration with Germany’s leading provider of International Co-operation Service, GIZ, is reviewing investment strategies to position the state as Nigeria’s most attractive and viable investment destination.
Managing Director, ESIPO, Mr. Kelvin Uwaibi, who spoke while welcoming participants to a three-day retreat held in Asaba, Delta State and tagged, “Institutional Strengthening, Strategy and Mid-year Review,” noted that the retreat is coming at a time when ESIPO is desirous of meeting its target of attracting quality investors into the state.
He said: “We need to think differently and strategically to meet our target of attracting $200 million worth of investments. In doing that, we are sure of attracting more jobs and more wealth for the people, thereby achieving the economic recovery plan in the MEGA agenda.
“Let us be reminded that this retreat is about institutional strengthening, strategy and mid-year review. I must particularly thank GIZ for this support because ESIPO is the first agency to receive this kind of support in the state. It is important to know that with this, we now need to show our performance.
“We will be looking at our strategy also. We need to make ESIPO sustainable. Let us evaluate and re-evaluate ourselves to know how well we are delivering on our mandate. This is because we must meet our target in repositioning the economy of Edo State. He suggested that the agency could do a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with MDAs in making the state business-friendly.
In the same vein, Head of Policy and Strategy, GIZ, Mr. Akinropo Omoware, who spoke on what GIZ is currently doing in Edo State, said that the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) had been supported through economic education, entrepreneurial development, policy and regulatory improvement initiatives.
IN another development, the state government, at the weekend, disclosed plans to recruit 1,000 new secondary school teachers and train 650 others on digital teaching methods.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe, said this during an interactive session with journalists on the preparedness of the Ministry of Education for the 2022/2023 academic calendar in the state.
She noted that the ministry had been engaged in a series of planning, stakeholders’ engagements and town hall meetings to improve the education sector.
Besides, the commissioner said following the directive from the governor and deputy governor to develop sports in the state, the principal cup will be revived.
