On Monday, Elon Musk rejected a report that Tesla had terminated battery supply contracts with Chinese manufacturer BYD. He stated that relations between the two companies are “positive,” without elaborating further. According to a report on Sunday by the Korean Economic Daily, Tesla had suspended sourcing batteries from BYD after the previous deal expired earlier this year. BYD responded that the report “is not in line with the actual situation” in a statement sent to Reuters on Monday. BYD first revealed the partnership with Tesla back in June of last year when Lian Yubo, executive vice president, told state broadcaster CGTN that the company would begin supplying batteries to Tesla “very soon.” [Elon Musk’s Tweet]
