In a series of updates by Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH), pre-departure and on-arrival tests are no longer required for fully-vaccinated travellers entering Malaysia from 1 May 2022.
As such, COVID-19 detection testing prior to departing for Malaysia and upon arrival is not required for the following groups of travellers:
However, travellers who are not fully vaccinated are still required to:
Travellers who are detected with symptoms while at the international entry point (PMA) will be instructed to undergo a professional antigen (Ag) RTK COVID-19 screening test.
The same policy will apply to all categories of travellers including Umrah, Hajj, and foreign workers. Umrah and Hajj travellers are required to get a booster dose of the vaccine before leaving for pilgrimage.
All travellers are also still required to present a Traveller’s Card, displayed in the MySejahtera application, upon arrival at the PMA.
As part of the update, COVID-19 insurance coverage for non-Malaysian travellers is no longer a prerequisite for entry into Malaysia.
Similarly, the use of face masks while outdoors and in open areas in Malaysia is now optional. While not compulsory, MOH still strongly encourages the use of face masks to reduce the spread of infection.
However, wearing a face mask is still compulsory indoors and in public transport, including e-hailing rides.
The Ministry announced the relaxation of all SOPs starting 1 May — including quarantine updates for COVID-positive cases, doing away with MySejahtera, and more. Head over here to view each coverage.
