The Environment Agency will start repair work to the Sea Palling access ramp next week (Monday 11 September).
The repair work will focus on the section of the ramp, which extends onto the beach to address previous safety concerns raised. The repair works will involve filling the surface and sides of a section of the ramp to make it as safe as possible.
The beach will need to be excavated in places to expose the ramp with nearby large rocks also needing to be removed or moved before the full repairs can take place.
During these works access to the beach will still be available for public access but may be restricted at times to protect the health and safety of the public (for example when machinery is moving around).
Health and safety restrictions and notices will be in place. For your safety, please take notice of any signage and keep away from fenced-off areas. If access to the beach is blocked, diversions will be put in place to allow for beach access.
These works will be subject to tides and weather conditions, but construction should be complete within 6 to 8 weeks.
The Environment Agency will have offices and site cabins at the Environment Agency Depot and part of the NNDC car park will be utilised during the construction works.
Cllr. Blathwayt, portfolio holder for Coast, said:
“This is a long-awaited and necessary repair to the ramp. It will improve user and visitor safety, allowing fishing boats access to the foreshore and will aid lifeboat launching in adverse conditions. I thank the Environment Agency for taking on this task and am proud that NNDC will be contributing to the cost.
“I sincerely hope no one will be inconvenienced by this necessary work.”
