With Metronet’s rail extension into Yanchep started, another local project is already bridging the gap for the once-disconnected outer coastal suburb in Perth’s north.
The foreshore development at Capricorn Beach estate has achieved its first major milestone, with the extension of Capricorn Esplanade road giving the community direct access to the new park precinct.
This includes an adventure playground, toddler playground, barbecues, large turf kickabout area, moonstone-feature seating and a beach shower area.
The adjacent lower beachfront carpark has also been upgraded and is only 50m from the beach.
The only way the beachfront area could be accessed after the former Club Capricorn Resort site closed in 2016 was through a few pathways further south towards Yanchep Lagoon.
“Over the next few years, the development will see a further 12ha of beachfront land transformed … with parklands, tourism resort, cafes and restaurants along with a variety of residential housing,” project director Jarrod Rendell said.
Mother-of-two Jody Rolph moved her family into their new Capricorn Beach property in March last year after relocating from Albury in regional NSW.
“We moved across in July 2020 and only just got through the borders into Perth,” the 32-year-old said.
“We rented a house down in Rockingham because we’ve got family down there. But as our house was getting built, we would travel up every couple of weekends to see the progress.
“It’s been really exciting to see all of the progress in the area. When we first moved in, it was all sand.”
Mrs Rolph said since the extension of the road, her five-year-old and three-year-old girls had been able to get more playtime.
“Previously we had to either drive or walk all the way around,” she said.
“So having the new access path is going to make it so much easier to just get down to the beach into the park and area.”
The Yanchep rail extension will deliver the last proposed section of the Joondalup line from Butler 14.5km north.
The extension will give more than 150,000 future Yanchep–Two Rocks residents another option to travel around Perth.
“Travel into the city is going to be awesome. (And) when people visit and they are flying into Perth, it’s going to make it super easy with the train line going to the airport, and then directly up to Yanchep,” Mrs Rolph said.
“There’s lots of preschools and daycares in the area and more I am sure will come as it grows.”
Capricorn Beach estate developers said they were bringing forward the release of 12 additional new family-sized lots to October.
Prices are said to start from $215,000.
“We expect very strong demand for these lots that will be released as buyers can now start to visualise the significance of this major new lifestyle amenity, which has been subject to years of detailed planning,” Mr Rendell said.
