An elderly predator serving a long jail sentence for sexually abusing boys over three decades will spend extra time behind bars.
John David Pike, who is now aged 77, was sentenced to a further two years' prison in a Brisbane court on Monday after pleading guilty to charges including 14 counts of indecent treatment of a boy under the age of 14.
He is already serving a 16-year jail sentence after admitting a raft of abuse charges including indecent treatment of boys under 16, carnal knowledge, rape and indecent assault of young adolescent boys from 1974 to 2006.
Pike, originally from Slacks Creek south of Brisbane, portrayed himself as a father figure to the boys who were aged between 11 and 16, the sentencing proceedings in 2020 were told.
He would ply them with alcohol before sexually abusing them – often as they slept.
The predator enticed the boys with exciting activities such as boating, shooting, PlayStations – even purchasing a Corvette sports car to lure them into his web.
He would buy gifts, take them to restaurants and on holiday if they complied with Pike's desires.
The victims were all vulnerable – some socially disadvantaged and others geographically far from family support networks.
He warned his victims they would never be believed if they tried to raise the alarm and even fired a gun into the air near one victim saying: "Next time I won't miss – doing what you're told is the best option."
Pike was sentenced on Monday for sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy on multiple occasions over about a year when he was aged about 38.
"The offending occurred in a gross breach of trust," Brisbane District Court Judge Tony Moynihan said.
He sentenced Pike to a further two years behind bars, to be served in addition to the earlier 16-year term of imprisonment.
