Steve Evans is ready to embrace VAR – which will feature in Stevenage’s FA Cup third round clash at Aston Villa.
The rules of the famous old competition state that video replays, and goal-line technology, can be utilised at Premier League grounds with the systems in place.
The FA have confirmed that will happen on Sunday at Villa Park with the Boro boss keeping his fingers crossed that any use will bring a fair outcome to both teams.
He said: “We’re all human and referees will call things differently.
“But whether it is the referee on the day on the one watching on TV, you just hope they get it right for both sides.
“It’s nice to know that if you’re going to be undone away to a big club, and there have been penalties awarded at the home end against my teams where you look back and they are never penalties, that VAR will clarify it.”
Referee Graham Scott of Abingdon will take charge in the middle on Sunday, assisted by linesmen Bhupinder Singh Gill and Sam Lewis.
Matthew Donohue will be the fourth official while Sheffield’s Thomas Bramall will be on VAR, helped by Derek Eaton.
