saudi arabia head coach Herve Renard has decided to leave out Fahad Al-Muwallad from his World Cup squad just days before the tournament.
Renard had named his final 26-man squad that will travel to Qatar for the World Cup and the Frenchman had included Al-Shabab’s Fahad Al-Muwallad.
However, just hours after the squad announcement, Al-Muwallad was excluded from the squad due to fears over his pending doping case.
Having failed a doping test back in February, El-Muwallad was called up to the World Cup squad despite reportedly testing positive for furosemide, which is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (wada) banned drug list.
As a result, the saudi arabian football federation (SAFF) revealed that Al-Muwallad was dropped from the squad as a precaution with his Al-Shabab teammate Nawaf Al-Abed coming in as a replacement.
“After reviewing the developments of an appeal by WADA to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (cas) regarding Fahad Al-Muwallad’s case, Herve Renard decided to exclude him from the squad,” the SAFF said in a statement.
Renard’s side will play a friendly against croatia on Wednesday before kicking off their journey in Qatar with a clash against Argentina on November 22nd.
