An Orlando man who stepped out of his vehicle after a crash on Interstate 4 near DeLand early Sunday was hit and killed by another vehicle, investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The 72-year-old man died at the scene of the crash that occurred at 1:57 a.m. at I-4 and State Road 44, said FHP Lt. Tara Crescenzi.
The Orlando resident was traveling east on I-4 when his 2010 Ford Explorer blew a left tire. The sport utility vehicle ran off the road and hit a guardrail, Crescenzi said.

The SUV was disabled and partially in the inside lane of I-4. A 2020 Chevy Camaro also headed east on the interstate then struck the SUV from behind, troopers said.
Crescenzi said that after the SUV was hit by the Camaro, the victim got out of his vehicle and was in the inside lane when he was struck by a 2022 Lexus.
Both the driver of the Camaro and the Lexus remained at the scene of the crash, troopers said.
The driver of the Camaro, a 53-year-old woman from South Daytona, suffered minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. The driver of the Lexus, a 28-year-old woman from Geneva, and a passenger, a 36-year-old man from Daytona Beach, were not injured, Crescenzi said.
The crash remains under investigation, Crescenzi said.
