BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —It’s a place where people have rung in a new year. Or celebrated a wedding, baby shower, special birthday, or even shared a meal.
Fishers, which is considered a township landmark, is now up for sale as events are still scheduled at the Street Road complex.
“Way back in the day, it was the place to be for special events,” Township Council Vice Chairman Joseph Pilieri told Patch Tuesday.
Pilieri said he used to frequent Fishers over the years, but hasn’t attended the event there in a decade.
Fishers Complex bills itself on its website as “Bucks County’s and the Greater Philadelphia Area’s premier banquet hall and nightclub.”
“From bridal showers and restaurant dining to large wedding receptions and a world-class nightclub, our event space complex lets you celebrate your most memorable days and unforgettable nights,” its website states.
Fishers recently held a New Year’s Eve event with DJ Robbie Tronco. And it has scheduled a “Golden Girls Murder Mystery” there for July 23.
The 64,400-square-foot property, which sits on 3.2 acres, has been listed by NAI Mertz, a Mount Laurel, N.J.-based commercial real estate company, as a “redevelopment opportunity.”
“We hope it will continue being a landmark obviously, but we just don’t know,” said Bensalem Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo, in a call with Patch Wednesday. “It’s a legend.”
The mayor said he remembers when the property was known as Ted’s Inn back in the 1940s.
He said Fishers is located “in one of the best corners we have in Bensalem.” He also said the property has been preserved and features a parking garage.
“It’s in perfect shape,” the mayor said. “There’s nothing wrong with it. I hope it can be carried on. We want to make sure it’s a high-profile corner.”
On its website, NAI Mertz said the price for the property is subject to offer. The property is described as a “major restaurant, catering hall, & entertainment complex in Suburban Philadelphia.”
On the website, there’s a video showcasing Fishers and numerous photos of the property’s features.
A message was left for a manager after Patch called Fishers Tuesday seeking comment.
Back in the day, Fishers had a storied history in Bensalem, home to countless events for 47 years, the Bucks County Courier News reported.
Pilieri said he’s not surprised that Fishers is on the selling block.
“It’s been a part of the community for a long time,” he said. “But a lot of the family who’ve owned it have passed away and the owner has health issues. For everything they did, COVID did a number on them.”
Pilieri said other businesses have filled the void and offer a lot of the same functions. He mentioned the Bensalem Country Club as one.
“It’s a hard sell,” Pilieri said. “I don’t know what they would do there. It’s an old, old building and where it’s located has been an issue. Maybe a new owner might be able to bring life back into it.”
