Strengthening communities through charity partnerships
At Foodbank WA, we know that hunger is just one part of the story. When people turn to us for help, they’re often grappling with compounding challenges. But that’s where our incredible charity partners come in. These organisations are the unsung heroes who work hand-in-hand with us to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the valuable role they play in our mission to feed change.
Life happens to all of us, and Rose understands this better than most. Currently living on Centrelink benefits, she knows the daily struggle of balancing bills, groceries and everyday expenses. And when these costs just keep coming, how can you ever find any type of reprieve?
Rose explains, “I’m only on Centrelink, so it is quite hard to manage my money and grocery shop as well. This has really helped in terms of just being able to afford food as well as everything else.”
Our Mobile Foodbank, a lifeline on wheels, serves as a symbol of hope for Rose and many others like her. Read just how valuable it is in Rose’s house like so many others.

Nurturing healthier futures
Our vision to end child hunger has taken a huge stride forward, thanks to the valuable support of Telethon.
With Telethon’s generous funding we have successfully delivered 48 nutrition education and cooking programs supporting child health this year through an initiative that has achieved an Australian first. At the heart of this collaborative effort, the Food Sensations® for Children program has proven effective in improving food literacy, parenting feeding practices and vegetable consumption among parents of 0 to 5-year-olds in vulnerable communities.
Read on to discover the incredible impact our nutrition education programs are making in our regions.

From setbacks to success: Amanda’s story
“Working at Foodbank WA?” Amanda leans in, her eyes brimming with excitement, “It’s incredibly rewarding. It’s honestly the best job I’ve ever had.” But it’s not just about the warm fuzzies; it’s the satisfaction of making a real difference.
Amanda’s journey to us is far from conventional. For 30 years, she was a skilled hairdresser, bringing joy to her community through her craft. But she wanted to do more, especially after some time in prison. “This is different,” she says, “it’s giving back to my community in a productive way. It’s good for my soul.”
Read her story, one she so graciously shared with us.
The Financial Wellbeing Collective
In a new initiative to further advocate for and educate our clients, the Financial Wellbeing Collective is expanding to Foodbank Peel to provide free sessions with their money mentors.
After a successful partnership with Foodbank Perth, the collaboration is expanding to the Peel region, with money mentors specialising in individual and small business finances available every Wednesday for free assessments and advice.
This new partnership allows us to further empower our shoppers with essential financial guidance and support as we tackle a rapidly changing economy.

Welcome to Anti-Poverty Week 2023
Food insecurity doesn’t always mean empty plates. It can mean making tough choices between nutrition and affordability, sacrificing quality for quantity, or skipping meals to make ends meet. This Anti-Poverty Week, we wanted to remind everyone that poverty isn’t just about a lack of money; it’s about limited opportunities, access and dignity. And the result is eroding self-esteem and cycles of hardship, with limited educational opportunities, healthcare access and employment openings dramatically impacting quality of life.
Here at Foodbank WA, we’re working hard to make food one less thing people need to worry about.

Celebrating 10 years of Superhero Foods
For the last decade, Superhero Foods has been on a mission – to revolutionise the way we teach kids and students about nutrition. As we reflect on our journey and celebrate our 10 year anniversary, we’re more dedicated than ever to our mission: making nutrition education fun, accessible and impactful.
Our story began with a simple yet powerful idea: Everyday Foods are Superhero Foods in disguise. We wanted to show kids and students that the foods they encounter daily are packed with the nutrients and energy they need to thrive. Our goal was to make nutrition education engaging, just like their favourite superhero stories. Made possible through more than 70 Superhero Food characters, lesson plans, activity books and a thriving and extensive website, accessing these resources has never been easier. And now with hundreds of resources having been made available of these 10 years, Superhero Foods look set for continued and amazing growth into the future.
As we look ahead, we remain dedicated to our mission of making nutrition education fun, accessible and impactful. Thank you for being part of our journey so far. Together, we’re turning Everyday Foods into Superhero Foods, one lesson at a time. Here’s to the next 10 years of nourishing minds, bodies and futures.
At 79 years young, Ray Jordan has been an embodiment of unwavering dedication to his community, proving that age is just a number when it comes to making a difference. For most of his life, Ray has been a shining example of the power of volunteerism, leaving an indelible mark on every place he’s called home. Now, we’re proud to share that Ray has been recognised as South West Volunteer of the Year.
Ray’s journey of service began four decades ago in Kalgoorlie, where he selflessly lent his time to both the Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Boy Scouts. Now feeding change at Foodbank Bunbury, Ray is still just as committed as he was 40 years ago.
