So is hope. The stories we’ve collected this month are particularly moving.
Volunteering that changes lives
As cost of living continues to rise we are now assisting up to 900 households a day. We couldn’t do this without the support of our wonderful volunteers. People volunteer for many reasons and whether it is to give back or to gain work experience we appreciate them all.
For our volunteers from Boronia Pre-release Centre for Women, it is helping them to gain warehouse, retail, and customer service experience before their reintegration into the community. We are so grateful for their help.
Volunteers from the Centre do more than meets the eye though.
How grate is this donation?
We’ll be talking about this one for a while; we received a massive donation of a massive 72 blocks of Gouda cheese each weighing 15.64 kilos. That’s a total of 1,126 kilos. With a retail price about $36/kg in the shops, this one pallet may be worth an eyewatering $40,536.
It travelled a long way too, all the way from the Netherlands – making it’s journey more than 14,000km.

It was lights, camera action in Kalgoorlie late last month when Channel 7 visited the branch to film a portion of an episode of Our Town.
Our inclusion was made possible thanks to Northern Star Resources and highlighted the great work we do together in the community.
Check out how you can watch the episode here.

Fresh fruit making kids smile
Have you met our Perth Airport School Fruit Van driver Bert? Bert never misses a run – in fact, he thought he was stepping into the wonderful world of retirement almost 10 years ago when he got the call to deliver fresh fruit to schools. All these years later, he still loves it when a school opens their box straight way to see the variety of fruits for the week, and never gets tired of hearing how the fruit deliveries make the kids happy and bring smiles to their faces.
This is why we do what we do
We received this letter recently, “Being a new customer to Foodbank I was a little apprehensive and nervous about how I would be received. Due to severe domestic violence by now ex-husband and gaining sole custody of our youngest children I found myself struggling to cope financially as I was cut off from all access to any financial support.“
Reading stories like this reminds us why distributing food relief is so important and the rest of their story is just as impactful as the start. Keep reading about their experience here.

International Women’s Day 2023
Held on 8 March each year, International Women’s Day is celebrated with events and activities taking place across the globe.
We celebrate all women, in all their diversities. We celebrate the women who came before us, those who stand beside us now, and those who will come after.
It also marks an opportunity to accelerate gender equality to create a world where women and girls everywhere have equal rights and opportunities.
