Before every election, county boards of election are required by state law to conduct pre-election tests on voting machines. In Forsyth County, residents are being invited to watch and learn about the process of testing those machines.
The process is simple:
First, election employees run a test ballot through each individual machine’s system. Those ballots have pre-determined results, acting as a control. Once the machine runs through the ballot, a comparison is made of the expected results from the tabulator, and the pre-determined results act as the control.
Any differences are noted, and that machine is then set aside to be re-evaluated and potentially serviced. Jay Lerman, a Voting Systems/Geocode Manager for the Forsyth County Board of Elections, is adamant that voters know transparency is key.
And Michelle Bobadilla, the Deputy Director of Forsyth County Board of Elections, says that everything they do is by the book.
The Forsyth County Board of Elections is letting the public view this process between Sept. 6 to Sept. 14.
