Hello.
The People’s Action Party (PAP) has given a timeline for its leadership transition. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said last Sunday (Nov 5) that he plans to hand over the reins to Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong by November 2024, before the next Singapore General Election.
As the leader of the PAP’s fourth-generation (4G) team, Mr Wong recently laid out a new roadmap for Singapore, with key shifts in policy across various aspects of society. Forward Singapore, the product of an extensive nationwide engagement exercise, as well as PAP’s transition plans, offer a glimpse of how the 4G team will lead: In a more open and consultative style, says Woo Jun Jie of the Institute of Policy Studies.
Singapore in recent weeks has experienced a string of digital disruptions – from OCBC’s “intermittent technical issues” to a DDoS attack on Singapore public hospitals’ websites. But the Oct 14 DBS and Citi outage dealt a huge blow on customers, derailing 2.5 million payment and ATM transactions, and leaving many unable to shop, buy food, or pay for public transport.
The fact that two banks went offline because of a technical issue in one data centre is concerning. It’s also a warning of what could happen in an intentional attack on Singapore’s systems, says Benjamin Ang of S Rajaratnam School of International Studies.
