Over $1 Million Awarded for Final Paper Project Grants
We recently announced the last round of Getty Foundation grants supporting curatorial innovation in prints and drawings as part of our Paper Project initiative. Since 2018, this program has nurtured ambitious graphic arts professionals by funding curatorial projects, training residencies, and professional development workshops and seminars. The 13 new grants will result in 150 free opportunities for international scholars to attend workshops and seminars starting this spring and continuing into 2025. Descriptions of all of the programs, including timing and how to apply, are listed at the top of our grants awarded page. Please share the news with all the ‘paper people’ in your life!

Getty and Partners Debut a Novel Model of Co-curation and Cooperation in India
December marked the opening of an extended exhibition at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) museum that gives the Indian public views of ancient Mediterranean art alongside their own cultural heritage for the first time. This special installation made possible with Getty grant support features long-term loans from Getty, the British Museum, and Staatliches Museum zu Berlin chosen by CSMVS curators to appear with objects from Indian institutions. Ancient Sculptures: India Egypt Assyria Greece Rome is on view until October 2024 and includes educational outreach for younger audiences both onsite and through CSMVS’s Museum on Wheels mobile collections-sharing program that brings exhibitions into communities.

Conserving Black Modernism in the News
Three recent articles during Black History Month continue the work of our Conserving Black Modernism (CBM) program to elevate and preserve the designs of black architects in the United States. In partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation and its African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, we’ve committed over $3 million for conservation planning and training related to Modern Movement sites by Black architects and designers. The most recent stories in Stacker, Veranda, and Architectural Digest give a closer look at what’s behind the initiative and the sites we’re supporting. Keep an eye out for the second year of grants to be announced later this summer.

In addition to attending sessions, they’re looking forward to seeing participants in this year’s Getty/CAA International Program. For 13 years, this program has brought professionals from around the world to the conference, connecting them with each other and the CAA community at large. There is also a special session featuring alumni of the Getty/CAA program, Art, Authenticity, Migration, and Global Climate Change. Please come by if you’re in Chicago and enjoy the conference.

Introducing Getty Global
Getty inaugurated a new e-newsletter this January for our worldwide community of scholars, colleagues, peers, and friends. The digest will include all the latest happening here on our campus and around the world through projects and international partnerships. We will still be running the Foundation e-newsletter devoted exclusively to funding programs and their impact. But Getty Global gives you the chance to get caught up on a broader range of stories about recent publications, research, and more, as well as featured grant opportunities offered by us at the Getty Foundation.
