Last night Broadsheet Access members gathered at Shane Delia’s new Collingwood wine bar, Maha North, for our seventh Editors’ Preview Night. These exclusive events give members the chance to check out the city’s most hotly anticipated restaurants alongside Broadsheet editors.
Maha North is the homey counterpart to Delia’s south-side wine bar, Maha East. It’s in the former Maha Bar site, which has been totally revamped, with a slicker and moodier interior and an all-new menu, too.
The dinner started with a round of meze (which was the highlight for many members), including hummus with roast capsicum and dill, and grilled merguez sausage with tomato and smoked paprika. Next, a main course of tender Wagyu rump cap slathered in creamy harissa with sides of beans and crisp spiced potatoes. And to finish things off, a refreshing pineapple granita dessert.
Between courses, Broadsheet publications director Nick Connellan chatted to Delia about the original Maha turning 15 this year and the lessons he’s learnt along the way, why he felt the need to revamp the site, and how Smith Street customers differ from Maha East’s Chapel Street clientele.
Editors’ Preview nights are exclusively available to Broadsheet Access members. For less than the price of a cocktail each month, members also get tables at booked-out restaurants, score free tickets, save on food and top brands, and more. Join today.
